At Passages, our mission is to help people overcome addiction using holistic practices that empower them to heal, and live the life they were meant to live. We see people for who they are, not the addict or alcoholic they appear to be. We don't use labels such as "addict" or "alcoholic" to describe a person. Labels are dangerous because they can cause someone to lose sight of their true identity and adopt the label they are being associated with. Labels are associated with the disease concept of addiction. Most people believe that addiction is a disease. As such, if you have this disease, they say you're an addict. At Passages, we don't believe addiction is a disease. Anyone who is abusing drugs and alcohol is doing so because of one or more of the following four reasons:
1. A Chemical Imbalance
2. Events of the past you have not reconciled
3. Current conditions you can't cope with
4. Things you believe that aren't true
Through extensive research and direct experience, we have learned that addiction is not the primary problem but rather the symptom of a deeper underlying issue.
